Monday 16th September: Carol Brindley - The Cope Hall Colony
Carol lives in Highclere and has been researching the lives of early women doctors. By chance she came across Dr Helen Wilson and the women’s training colony she established at Cope Hall, Skinners Green during the 1st World War. Dr Wilson’s innovative approach reflected but also challenged the social attitudes of the time. It is a fascinating story.
Monday 21st October: David Skyrme - The Amazing Life and Legacies of a Local Lady.
Intrigued by a news story about a local lady that made national headlines 150 years ago, David has researched the life story of the lady in question. She left a substantial legacy but her will was challenged. Find out who she was and be a member or the jury that decides who gets her substantial legacies.
Monday 18th November: Ros Clow - Lord George Sanger
Lord George Sanger was a showman and circus proprietor who became a successful and nationally recognised figure in the 19th century. He was born in Newbury and paid for the town’s statue of Queen Victoria which stood in the market place for many years. Ros' research has enabled her to put together a lively account of his eventful life and eventual death.
