A long-established freehold and family owned traditional hotel, public house and restaurant situated just outside Newbury in the stunning surroundings of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Serving freshly cooked meals every lunchtime and evening and all day at weekends we’re here for you whatever the occasion.
Our 9 well-equipped bedrooms all include air-conditioning, en-suite washrooms and flat screen TV’s – so whether you’re here for an important meeting or visiting the set of ITV’s Downton Abbey (Highclere Castle) you’ll be sure to enjoy our relaxing atmosphere while never being too far from where you need to be.
The fully-stocked central bar is certain to have the beverage you’re looking for from freshly made barista coffees to vintage malt whiskeys and our kitchen team work hard to keep our menu varied and interesting while always having that dish you’ve been craving all day.
From those just dropping in for a quick bite on their way out to once-in-a-lifetime family reunions we’ve had plenty of experience in ensuring everyone’s needs are met and we’re always happy to help in any way we can.

Our bars are open from 9am until 11pm Monday to Saturday, and from 12pm until 10:30pm on Sundays
Reservations are accepted as per the food service times below up until 30 mins before the end of service.

Monday to Thursday 12pm – 3pm and 5pm – 9pm
Friday 12pm – 3pm and 5pm – 9:30pm
Saturday 12pm – 9:30pm
Sunday 12pm – 9pm
Breakfast is available for non-residents upon prior reservation only and is served from 7:30am until 9am Monday to Friday and 9am until 10am on weekends.
